Buying your vegetables from the local farmers market is the best option.  Obviously these aren't always the most convenient to coordinate and find in your area so you might want to consider buying organic.  Just be aware that if you buy organic that you will be paying quite a bit more, especially if you are planning to make your soup for a larger than average size batch.


It may be hard to find, but if you can find a butcher that has chicken that has not been frozen you will find that the quality of the soup will be much better as the chicken is much more tender.  This isn't something that is a high priority because the soup broth will soften it up anyway but its just one little detail that when you add them all up you will see why this soup is the best.
